NASCAR Attendance down at tracks

NASCAR is always worried about dropping attendance. They lower prices. They promote more events. They buy more advertising. They even change the rules of their sport.

Nothing seems to work.

Brian France I have a secret for you – it’s not your fault!

You are a billionaire, you do not realize the needs of the common fan. Our needs are lodging we can afford. I don’t mind the ticket prices at the tracks. They are in line with the other major sports. I don’t mind the concession prices at the track. They are similar to other events who over charge the public. In fact they are about the same as my local movie theater.

In fact I don’t mind the price gouging of track area hotels and motels. I know they are just trying to make the most money they can from their facilities.

The problem is, even though I don’t mind the price gouging at hotels, I still can’t afford them. A couple of times a year I can afford race tickets. I am lucky enough to live within six or seven hours of several tracks. If you have ever been to a track you know six or seven hours becomes ten or twelve pretty fast with race traffic. Too long to be a day trip.

So now I need a hotel. The hotels who normally charge hundred dollars are now three hundred dollars. Still affordable once in awhile. So I try to book a room for a night and they require a three or four day stay.

Now a race day has grown from a hundreds to thousands. Instead of being a fun weekend it has become a major vacation. A weekend I can do a few times a year. A NASCAR vacation is only going to be once a year.

This is why my personal track attendance is down. I don’t think my case is unusual. I think Brian France and NASCAR should take a long hard look at lodging.

I don’t know the answer but there should be one. If there is, NASCAR can expect to see more of me.

I would guess they would also see more of you.
